The Hamlin Garland Society was formed at the American Literature Association conference in Baltimore on May 30, 1999. The Society exists to disseminate information about the life and works of American author Hamlin Garland (September 14, 1860 – March 4, 1940), whose best-known books are Main-Travelled Roads (1891) and A Son of the Middle Border(1917).
Membership is open to anyone interested in Garland's life and work. The Society seeks to exchange scholarship and ideas through this web space. At the present time, there are no dues. For further information on the governance of the Hamlin Garland Society, please see the Constitution and Bylaws.
